I bet this place held lots of good memories for many who went through these doors.. Sad to see in such a state of disrepair now..

The inside is fairly gutted but the outside has been preserved and can be used for outdoor venues. Actually it looks better than many downtown theaters that are just left to ruin. The one in my hometown – Cynthia Theater – is really sad but there were so many memories there. Thanks for the visit.

I bought “The Golden Man – the Quest for El Dorado” by Victor W. von Hagen. It was a nice addition to my collection of his non-fiction travel and adventure books. Nice to have you drop by!

Yes, it is better preserved outside than most old movie houses these day. I am sure it is kept up as a tourist attraction and because McMurtry still lives there. He was not “in” the day we visited.

I have watched both movies – several times. I adore old movies (for those of this generation). It’s a little scary to think…. most of the old movies I watched when they were released. XXXX Virginia

I love his movies too and have read almost all of his books. My favorite movies are Lonesome Dove and Terms of Endearment. Old movies are my favorites too and I remember when many of them were released! Cheers and hugs for the weekend, Virginia!

Yes, I agree. And it is has better structure than most old theaters that are left in small towns like Archer City. A few of the really nice older ones in larger cities have been restored and still show movies, but most of the ones in small town are gone or abandoned in ruins.

Odd how Architecture and structures morph into art when they are no longer utilized. As if it’s something they only dreamed about doing until they “retired”

I actually live close to Archer City..I have a 1st Edition of Lonesome Dove and I thought about going over and asking him for his autograph. ..I’ve never worked up the courage.

Oh, small world! And a 1st Edition! He was not at any of the bookstores when we were there but we did drive by his home. I would love to have one of his books autographs…I don’t have any 1st Editions though. Thanks for stopping by!
