The local city animal control staff has a reputation for being helpful while keeping stray animals off the streets and uniting owners when they can. This photo of the side of an animal control truck parked in front of Portland Animal Care Services seems to reflect that benevolent spirit.

Adorable. These are the things we should be seeing on the streets.

It was rather silly and whimsical to see. And unexpected. So far I have not seen any police cars with stickers. Thanks for stopping by to view and comment!

A good thing to appreciate!

Yes, Portland is fortunate to have a good facility and does try to get abandoned animals adopted.

I did laugh at the skull. At least they didn’t show a raccoon or possum skull!

It was rather incongruent to see a truck that could be after some poor animal. Still, it made me smile as I walked by. And it stayed in the Halloween spirit. I have toured the new animal care center and it is very nice. The front windows are usually decorated for Christmas. Only in a small town! I hope your fall is going well. We are grateful for fall temps in the high 80s to low 90s. And no hurricanes@

I did too. It is always rather sad to see one of the trucks but they are necessary. Portland has strict leash laws but we do have a nice dog park just down from the animal care center. Didn’t you used to volunteer at an animal shelter?

Yes, I still do! We’re not the animal control (which is a mess at the moment, sadly) but we are an open admission shelter that does rescues all over the state and many, many adoptions. There are still more dogs and cats than there are good homes for them, but we’re trying!

Good for you! There is such a need for volunteers but I am not brave enough to volunteer here. I am more of a cat person and would want to bring them all home. I have toured the fairly new facility and it is very nice. Keep up the good work, Ann!
