We live next door to a small city park where a school bus picks up neighborhood kids. About the last month of the school year this bicycle started showing up in the park. Sometimes it would be leaned against a tree like this; sometimes it would be leaned against playground equipment; once it was left in our front yard; sometimes we would see a boy riding it home. Was it a shared bike? Was it a stolen bike? ( I thought of The Bicycle Thief) I guess our neighborhood is safe enough that it could be left at the park in the morning to be picked up after school. It had a chain with lock combination but it was never locked and was in good condition.
School was out last week and we have not seen the bike again. Maybe it will appear again in the fall.
Maybe the bike just likes visiting the park by itself. 🙂

And maybe it belonged to a teenager who had outgrown it and simply need to visit the park again. Or maybe it wanted to be adopted by a child who would ride it again. I thought of you and Russ and how you are both always taking bike trips. I have not been on one in years!

I bet you could still ride a bike if you wanted. Your body never forgets that balance. Maybe the bike wants you to ride it!!

I walk four days a week and would be tempted to ride a bike if there were safe places to ride like a park. I do would not trust riding in the few bike lanes. Better stick to walking as there are good sidewalks and I sometimes walk to a park that has a short walking track around baseball fields. It is plain with no shade and no art! Happy trails to you, Marie!

Maybe whoever owns it wanted to give others a chance to ride it.

I thought about that. Maybe one child did not have a bike. Since our front yard blends into the park we sort of look out for it.

It’s a nice bike. Like you, I would be curious about its story. Hope you’re having good weather. I hear it’s very hot in Texas.

We thought it strange that it keep showing up and hoped that it would not get stolen. Yes, it is going to be another hot summer that is starting early. At least we have not had tornados as some other places in Texas so we can be grateful for now.

I love that photo! The blue of the merry-go-round is catchy with the blue on the bike frame!

Thank you! I even took this one myself. I guess I could compare it to some of your park art. It did line up rather well with with the merry-go-round and Morman Church in the background. Our house & front yard are just to the right of the tree and bike.

That’s a nice bike. In most places it would get stolen.

I agree! Our neighborhood is quiet but I would not leave a bike or anything out to tempt anyone.

This is like a mystery. I am amazed no on has run off with the bike yet. I hope you do a follow up in the fall. Wishing you a super weekend, Jo.

I was amazed when it kept showing up. The park is small with just swings, a merry-go-round and small slide with things to climb. The rest of open but it gets a lot of use. I will do a follow-up if it shows up again or I find the story behind. We sort of keep and eye on it and watch out for the kids. TGIF to you, John!

Oh, I agree and the title is right! I read those and some Ginny Gorden/Trixie Beldon books too. I wonder if kids read as much in the summer as they used to. The local library still has summer reading programs. Thanks for visiting, Frank.

Lets hope who ever this bike belongs to, they are enjoying their time riding it and parking it elsewhere at the moment..
Have a lovely rest of June Jo… Lots of love xx ❤

I don’t think a bike like that would last too long here, especially unlocked. Sad, but true. I really like that it hadn’t been stolen (and, I’m going to assume that’s still the case).

I think a nice bike like this one would be a temptation. That’s why it seemed so strange to keep showing up after being left out. I would like to think it was not stolen but one bloggger speculated that perhaps it was stolen and the thief couldn’t take it home and explain how he/she got it.

Hope the bike comes back in the fall!
Seems like some parts of Texas have had ‘hellacious’ weather! Our Texas friends were supposed to be visiting us in Alberta this week, but after two separate trips to the Houston airport to board planes that didn’t leave, they decided to abandon the visit and try again in September.

Houston has been getting all the rain and hellacious weather while we down south of Houston have gotten nothing but heat. Too bad your friends could not get out of Houston. Thanks for the visit from Canada!
We will see if the bike appears in the fall!

That bike wouldn’t have a chance in Houston! Here in League City, it might, but it certainly makes an interesting story from your neck of the woods. I wonder if the bike itself already has been stolen, and the thief can’t take it home and risk parental questions, like “Where in the world did you get that bike?”

Now that is a plausible theory. Most of us wanted to think it was something good and honest. Though my first thought was of the book/movie “The Bicycle Thief.” A bike would be a temptation for sure. A couple of houses down a kid sometimes leaves his bike in the front yard and I was afraid it would get stolen. My son once had his bike stolen by leaving it in the front yard when we lived in Corpus Christi.
In the meantime we will keep an eye on the park. We have been teenagers close to making out on the merry-go-round! But all in all it is a safe park and gets lots of use. Birthday parties are held there too but there are only a few trees for shade.

Nice shot Jo!
Still, how wonderful that you live in an area where someone could leave a bike, and it does not get stolen. (even if it was stolen to begin with…lol)
Maybe the bike was a reward gift to the owner because he passed into the next grade?
I hope it shows up in the fall. Let us know!

Thanks, Resa! I was heading out for my morning walk and there it was set up for a shoot with good lighting. I like your speculation that it was a gift for passing to the next grade! Stay tuned for any developments!

“The Mystery of the Bike” sounds like a YA book, doesn’t it? At first we thought it was abandoned because of a flat tire or broken chain, but it was in good condition with not dents or scraps. Stay tuned! Thanks for stopping by, Ann!

It wouldn’t last long here without being stolen, so I enjoyed reading about the mystery of the bike!

Perhaps a ghost bicycle has pedaled its way from an alternative time. An accidental arrival and no way home? One would hesitate to ride this mystery – just in case.

Now that is a theory that no one has come up with yet, Virginia. What if it came from Paris? It was quite stylish with a touch of blue! Thanks for adding your voice. I am sure you could come up with a romantic story about it. Hope all is well with you.

I love the inconsequential things that capture our imaginations and work into our ours. I used to pass a house everyday that had a curtain caught up giving a view of an empty milk carton. It didn’t move for years. I looked for it every time I passed. We moved after a couple of years.

Oh, I am the same way. There is a story somewhere behind that curtain and with that empty milk carton. One house I pass on my walk has a small skeleton hanging upside down in a tree in the front yard. I may have to do a post on it.

Hmmm, I hope the bicycle returns! I remember when I was growing up and had the run of the town on my bicycle – my friends and I would drop them anywhere, no locks. Much simpler times, though. Great picture 🙂
