Just what we didn’t need, a hurricane in the middle of a pandemic. Hurricane Hanna chose not to keep her distance or stay at home. Instead she chose to waltz into the Gulf of Mexico and make landfall on the Texas coast as a category 1 hurricane without much warning. The eye of the storm came in just south of Corpus Christi with some wind damage and flooding caused by rising water but no loss of lives. We were fortunate but hurricane season is just beginning.
My plumbago blooms; the cactus blooms.
President Trump tweets daily and plays golf on the weekends.
We order groceries online and do curbside pickup. A sister dies.
And life goes on. I am grateful for every day.

I’m so sorry to hear about your sister’s passing. I hope she didn’t suffer. What a time to lose someone you love. I also hope you were able to connect with her before she passed away.
I was thinking about you when I heard about the storm heading in your direction. I trust from what you’ve said, that you’ve managed to weather what it brought.
What a beautiful cactus flower! Yes, I am grateful for every day as well, Jo. These gifts from Nature can be healing to some degree.
As for Trump’s tweets, I don’t understand how your magnificent country has allowed such an incapable, unfeeling, and crooked president to remain in office. I guess, your system hasn’t been challenged in this way before. When he has the senate, some of the lackeys in his administration, and the attorney general behind him, it seems nothing can stand in his way. Hopefully, your election will happen without a hitch, and he will be replaced by someone with heart and reason. I also hope, that new laws will be enacted which will prevent his kind of presidency from happening again.

Thankfully, she went peacefully at home and apparently went to rest in her bedroom and passed. I had not seen her since December but I talked to her a few days before and she was doing well and sounded good and was making plans for when we could be together. She was 84.
I don’t understand how the 2016 election turned out. Maybe 2020 will turn around in November. I could go on but I won’t. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I had talked to her the Wednesday before and she sounded so good and was looking forward to the time we could be together. But my heart breaks to lose another sister. I saw her last in December. Yes, it complicates everything and it affects us all one way or another. There will be just a small family gathering at the cemetery but even the service will be delayed. I have to believe things will get better if we all do our part. You stay safe there in California! Nice to hear from you.

Losing a family member in these odd and trying times is even more difficult; I’m sorry for your loss. I don’t have any siblings, but I imagine it’s no less painful than the loss of a parent. I am glad that your area was mostly spared by the storm. Damage is damage, and no one wants it, but it could have been much worse. We’ll hope for an easy rest of the season.

Yes, it makes things more complicated and slows the process down because of Covid-19. She lived in Victoria and they have been hit hard with cases and deaths. We will have just a gathering of family at the graveside but it may be two weeks as she wanted to be cremated. She was my last sibling.
All calm in the gulf right now but we will keep a watch. We are on a bluff, but some beaches were damaged by erosion and some piers were damaged. May we stay safe from storms and Covid-19!

Thank you, Judith. We were very close and were best friends. My other older sister died about 1 1/2 years ago so I am the only one left. I feel those hugs! I know you treasure your sisters. Sisters are special. Grateful I had two great ones.

We also dodged a bullet here in Virginia Beach this week. Did lose power for 30 hours but no appreciable damage.

We will only have high tides and rough surf because of Hurricane Laura. Son lives in Houston so we are hoping for no damage or loss of power for him. It could be us next time. Crazy times!

Thank you for thinking about me! We were fortunate this time as we are farther south on the coast from where it hit, so we were spared this time. Son lives in Houston closer to where it hit but no damage where he lives. Other areas were badly hit. It is difficult for those who have to evacuate during this pandemic as many have to go to shelters. Oh, it is a comfort to have blogger friends who watch out for each other. Hugs back to you!
