Jace Tunnell, HRI Director of Community Engagement at the Harte Research Institute, is show with colorful piggy banks that have been showing up on Texas beaches lately. Tunnell speculates that they may have come from a damaged or lost container aboard a container ship or even from Cuba. The Texas Coast gets it share of items washing up on its beaches. These piggy banks seemed to be empty.
Fun Friday to be sure!

Aw. It is a shame they are empty. One of the joys of living on the beach was waking up to all kinds of things that had washed up. I used to love to beach comb. Thanks for sharing, Jo. I hope you have a peaceful weekend.

Yes! Gold coins would have been nice! I am sure you were these often before tourists ans found some unusual things. The strangest thing I ever saw were two live tigers being walked on New Year’s Day years ago. Hoping for a little peaceful rain this weekend.

I hadn’t either. I guess kids these days don’t have them. Thanks for chiming in!

What an interesting collection! Wouldn’t it be funny if the banks were full of sand dollars!

What a wonderful and funny find! They certainly beat the tarballs of the past, or sargasso weed. The most unusual thing I ever found was a human figure made of wax, with various inscriptions incised into it. When I showed it to a fellow from Haiti, he wouldn’t touch it, and advised me to get rid of it immediately — bad juju! I can’t remember what I did with it, but I didn’t keep it. I’d keep one of these piggy banks!

Aren’t they cute! You just don’t often see piggy banks like these. We have had our share of tarballs and sargasso weed recently. What you found sounds like a voodoo doll to me. I would keep one of those piggy banks too!
