“SWEET FARRAH” by artist Krystal Cook
This is one of six new murals in downtown Corpus Christi as part of Mural Fest 2023 held in June. The quote at the top right hand corner reads : “Every day is a good day, just some days are better. – Farrah Fawcett” The traffic light and palm tree distract a bit to me, but it is a colorful addition to the downtown area.
Below is a part of the description of the mural on the plaque next to it on the lower left.
This artwork commemorates the late Farrah Fawcett, celebrating her talent and the vibrant city she hailed from. Born in Corpus Christi on February 2nd, 1947, Farrah attended Ray High School before becoming an award-winning actress and beloved international icon. The mural portrays her using black and white imagery, blending her. classical aura with modern elements. Surrounding her are Texas wildflowers, emphasizing the beauty of her hometown.
I think we all fell a little bit in love with Farrah Fawcett.

Yes, and her in black and white gives it a retro vibe to me. Downtown CC is really changing from the old days, but it is good to see people coming back downtown. The murals are a nice addition. Check them out if you come this way…when it is cooler! I hope you are doing well.

Stunning! But yeah, someone should chop down that palm tree and traffic light, ha ha.

I am not sure Farrah would have chosen that spot, but it is not on some side street with less traffic. And if you catch the red light, you get a chance to view it rather then just driving by.
We don’t chop our palm trees down unless a freeze gets them and they have to go!

Love this both the painting and her words. So true. 🥰

Yes, I agree! It is a very positive image to see her smiling back at the traffic. Can’t help but want to smile back. Thanks for stopping to give your input.

So true. I often wonder if she would have embraced her getting older and taken on more serious roles. She did do one called “The Burning Bed” that was not glamorous at all. And she fought the cancer so hard. Thanks for coming by!

That was back in the early days of colon cancer too. Now they have better treatments and screenings.

I hope to get back and photograph more murals downtown when it is cooler. There is a really good one with a military theme.
The days all run together with 100/101 temps for another week. TGIF to you, John! It is margarita weather.

I hope to get back when it is cooler (high temps have been 100/102) and take some photos of some. Some reflect the Hispanic culture of the area too. And of course the coast and military. This is the first, I think, of an actual person.

Neat! Not the heat…the art! Yeah, I’m not going out walking until it cools down here. The heat can be devastating.

I had no idea Farrah Fawcett was from Corpus. The mural is beautiful. In a way, the tree and the lightpole are distracting, but on the other hand, they’re a neat reminder that she appealed to people from all walks of life: urban (the light pole) and rural (the tree).

I had not thought of it that way, but when I look again, the lightpole and palm become part of the art. I believe the artist has posed her this way to mimic Farrah’s 1976 poster. I think my son had one!
Also, the mural is on Water Street which is a major street downtown so there is plenty of traffic for it to be seen. It is smaller than most murals there so it seems more intimate. I can imagine it as an impromptu selfie.

This really goes way back, doesn’t it? It was her hair and her smile that made so many women want to copy her.

Way back for sure! The pose, hair and smile are similar to a poster of her in 1976. And “Charlie’s Angels” had beauty and brains.

Wonderful mural. I’ve never been embarrassed to admit that I had “Farrah” hair back in the day. 🙂 Hugs.

Congratulations! Not everyone had hair good enough to pull off the Farrah look. Thanks for dropping by to view it!

I really enjoyed seeing this post because I sometimes think of Farrah
and feel she was “dissed” when she passed away and did not get the honor she deserved.
For example, I guess she was not listed with the actors at an award show because they didn’t view her as a great actress – something like that
anyhow, the artist did a great job showing Farrah’s huge smile – and hair!

Thank you! Yes, if she had lived longer perhaps she would have had the opportunity to do more serious roles. Yet it is hard to break out of tv roles. I am glad that we see that she is honored in her hometown. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Farrah and the mural.

I did see her in a serious role with a show that was about abuse – I cannot recall the details – but she did get some serious roles in

She was in “The Burning Bed” and played an abused wife. And then there was “Logan’s Run.”
