PERSONA

Crone in faux Tuscany

Crone in faux Tuscany

LOCATION:

I live on the Texas coast in a medium-sized town.  Our home is on a bluff  just a short block from the water.  If a hurricane comes, we will roll down the shutters and ride it out!

EDUCATION:

Bachelor of Arts in English; post-graduate classes in creative writing    (I considered going back to get my teaching certificate and did some substitute work at the high school level.)

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Most of my work experience has been in the administrative side of healthcare with positions as a claims processor, claims manager, contract specialist and provider relations representative.  For the last four years I have worked part-time for a large non-profit during their campaign period from mid-July until mid-November.

WRITING:

It seems I have always tried to write and mostly wrote poetry and personal essays.  The only publication came from a few articles in a small free monthly newspaper.  For the last few years I have been more ambitious as I researched the life of a writer/adventurer for a biography.  The biography will be published someday, I hope, but it will be written by someone else.  I wish him success.  Currently I am working on a novel (more of a novella) and have several chapters in draft, but I seem to be stuck as to how to explain how the Texas Ranger will solve the murder.  I keep lighting candles for my muse.

So to keep me writing I have started this blog as I need deadlines and purpose for writing even if they are self-imposed.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Enjoy your blog. Thanks for dropping by mine. 🙂
In order to solve the mystery in your novella , have the Texas Ranger light a candle to his Muse of Deduction. Have er show up as a actual charater in a magic realist style. It may not work out, but it should get the Surreal Unconsciousness going. I am a firm believer in Surreal Unconsciousness. I intend to spend as much time there as I can when I retire.

    • I humbly accept! Thank you for the compliment on my writing which may not be exactly in the mainstream of blogging. I will check out the Sunshine Award on your blog. Sunshine is perfect after the 11 1/2 inches of rain we had yesterday. The sun is out today. Thanks again!

    • Oh, thank you so much! It must be the lovely palms that did it! I envy your camera skills as I can barely handle one. It is nice to see another blog by someone mature. I am right there behind you a couple of years! I will look for your post.

  6. There are so many absolutely wonderful posts in CoastalCrone. It’s hard to imagine you decided on a blog to give you an incentive to write often since your writing style is so delightful, thoughtful and inspirational, plus and I so much enjoy getting a sense of “you” (and even your cat) that comes through. I’m looking forward to your next post already!

  10. Hi, Ms. Crone! I saw your link on “Virginai Views” and had to check you out. First, for having such a terrific name, then I saw that you are a writer. I am, too. I’m a stay-at-home mom who blogs about growing up in rural Alabama. But I also insert other things, too. I would love to be friends, so please come visit me at http://www.thewritesteph.com. I’m working on a spooky ghost story, but finding motivation to write can be a hindrance. I would love to self-pub it by Halloween 2013.

  13. I know exactly what you’re talking about. I’ve done a variety of things so far, and I think writing is one of the hardest things to do! My muse…well, it’s my dog, but sometimes I just don’t understand what she’s saying. ha

Keep up the good work. Cheers, D

  15. My Dearest Crone, thank you so much for thinking of us! Yes, we have gotten some rain, not nearly enough; however, it has kept the trees alive and the grass green. The stock tanks are still dry or very empty and the animals all have a vacant look in their eyes. Not the Texas I remember as a kid. We are off to New England on the 28th, so very excited about that adventure. We will be traveling to Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Upstate New York. Thank you again for thinking of us!

  16. First, let me say that I love the photo of you with the hat! You look great!

What drew me in was the photo and post about the dachshund who was reprieved from being put down. I have three dachshunds – and in the past I rescued two. I’ve always had a houseful of ’em, at one time as many as five. I’m crazy that way. So is my husband. 🙂

I like your blog. I’m glad I came across it.

  19. I think we’re living parallel lives. I’ve been a Worker’s Comp examiner and Hearing Rep and then moved to Healthcare Ins and have been a Claims Auditor and Analyst, Contract Analyst and now am working in Broker Compensation.

    • We certainly have been on the same paths! I would retire and then go back to work but now at 71 I am fully retired (no one would hire me now!) and enjoy my free time. OK, some days I miss it but the industry, especially managed care, was getting crazier and crazier. Thank you so much for sharing! I really do enjoy your blog with your humor, honesty and compassion! Cheers!

  20. Its nice to meet you via Andrea’s blog! Do you go by Jo or Jo Nell?

We have something in common with blogging. I started nearly 5 years ago to try and foster a consistent writing practice and it has worked. I attribute improvement in writing to making myself write at least twice a month if not more for the blog. Its a great and fun taskmaster.

I hope you were spared the worst of hurricane Irma.

    Cheers,
    Susanne

    • Either will do buy Jo is easier to remember than two names. Yes, we seem to have some things in common with blogging. It is an outlet for me but I don’t post that much but it is fun to set deadlines and then click that “Publish” button. Life gets in the way of writing some days. All the best to you! Oh, we were hit by Harvey.Strange how they kept coming! We were lucky here!
